I am not that much of a baseball fan, but for some reason the last five years or so I really have enjoyed watching the playoffs and World Series if I get a chance. I like that it is the high pressure time of the season and I enjoy listening to the commentators as they explain strategy and talk about the players and managers since I don't understand all of the rules. I know the basic rules, but I know in one league the pitcher hits and in the other he doesn't and there are some other rules like that I don't quite understand. I also enjoy watching the pitchers and their focus while they are on the mound and the mental game they play with the batters. It just intrigues me.
Anyway so I got to watch a little of the playoffs and most of the World Series and it was a decent series but not one with major drama or anything. So last night I got to watch the first part of the game, then went to church and got home in time for the 9th inning where the writing was pretty much already on the wall. Did not look good for the Phillies. The Yankees got the final out and won and I got up and did a couple things for a few minutes and I walked back to the T.V. and was about to turn it off when they started interviewing the general manager for the Phillies. For some reason I always like to see what people from the losing team have to say. I have to say it was my favorite part of the whole series, that interview. The general manager ( I don't even know his name) was about the most gracious in defeat I have seen anyone. He made sure to give credit to his own ball club and say how proud he was of them and went on to give credit to the Yankees and how much they deserved the win. He was honest and sincere and gave an honest answer when asked where he thought his club could have done better. He was very sincere in his words, but I do not think you can get the full effect without watching the interview, because his mannerisms spoke volumes. Anyway, just thought I'd share my favorite part of that series.
