This past week Carrie and I got to attend the "Marriage Matters" seminar given by Jerry and Lynn Jones. Wow what a great blessing. I appreciate our Elders and Ministers inviting them and making that happen. Jerry and Lynn combined solid research, experience and a lot of fun humor in talking about marriage and relationships and this is something that is beneficial to anyone who is married or possibly even thinking about it.
Two things that stand out for me. First, last night Lynn was talking about a book who's author claimed to be able to tell by watching a couple for ten minutes whether they will make it or not. Sounds pretty absurd right? Well, the author claims to be able to tell this by seeing if the couple is KIND to each other. Wow, what a revelation. It is so simple, yet we can forget what an impact that can make, being kind to your spouse. Secondly, it is usually the little things that matter to a spouse. It's not rocket science, be kind to your spouse and pay attention to what they like and what is important to them, and you are off to a great start. They also touched on effective ways to discuss disagreements.....anyway it was a great way to spend 3 evenings for Carrie and I.
