Today William turns 3. I still remember being at Saint Agnes hospital and hearing the music play when he was born just after midnight. Carrie and I went up and saw him, though only through a window. We visited him and his birthmother the next three days and expected him to be home the following Monday. This was to be our first child so you can imagine the anticipation, his room was ready, everything was in place and we were ready to begin a new chapter. That Monday morning we got a call from our social worker that William had to go to Children's hospital just to double check his heart. He stayed there for three days and we visited him there as well. However we could tell that William's birthmother was having second thoughts and things started to get murky. Who could blame her, I can not imagine what she must have been going through. Then Carrie and I went through the craziest emotional roller coaster of our lives for the next week and a half. One week and three days after William was born, we took ourselves off of the case because we could not take the "not knowing" as we still did not have an answer if he would come home to us for sure. William by now was in interim foster care. We let the matter go and realized William would not be coming home to us. Four days later as I was working in the yard we got a call from our social worker saying that if we still wanted him, the birthmother wanted to bring him over that afternoon. William's birthmother brought him over to our house at 2 pm on April 28th 2006 as she did one of the hardest things she has probably ever had to do, trying to give her baby a better life. She will always be a blessing in our life as she gave us our first child. God works in amazing ways. Happy Birthday William.
