First let me remind everyone of the NBL Elite National this weekend in Fresno at Woodward Park BMX. This is really going to be an awesome event as the city and volunteers have worked hard on getting this track ready. You can check out NBL.org for more info, and if you can't make it there is a free live webcast of the event right here on GO211.com.

I keep a spiritual journal that I started in 2006 where I write different thoughts that I find siginificant in my life as I read the Bible, read books or hear in sermons or classes. I thought I'd share some of my favorite entries each week here.
Journal Entry - December 11, 2007
Richard Foster states in his book "The Celebration of Discipline"
"Freedom from anxiety is characterized by three inner attitudes:
If what we have we receive as a gift,
If what we have is to be cared for by God,
If what we have is available to others,
then we can possess freedom from anxiety.”
Deuteronomy 8:17-18 "You may say to yourself, 'My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.' But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth."
Psalm 62:10 "...though your riches increase, do not set your heart of them."
* When we are seeking first the kingdom of God (Matt 6:33), then these characteristics above will characterize our lives.

As I reflect back on this entry and as I was reading Foster's book again recently, my attention was drawn to Luke 6:30 "Give to everyone who asks of you."
I don't know how I just read over this so many times before and it never hit me like it did this week. I immediately thought of the people in need, especially those standing on the street corners with their signs. It is easy to not want to give them anything rationalizing that they will spend it on things that are not beneficial. If this is a problem for you as it has been for me, I suggest another way.
Carrie and I a while back decided to make "goodie bags" and filled little paper bags with various items; a bottle of water, a packet of trail mix, a snack bar and a pair of socks. We kept these in both our cars so when we saw a person in need they were readily available. It is something I'd like to get back into the habit of and transform my thinking on the possessions God has blessed me with. The resources I have should be readily available to benefit others, especially those in need.
We are dependant of God. He provides all things, and all things are His. We tend to lose this view as we think we worked and gained these things ourselves. All are a blessing from God.
